Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

Root canal therapy is indicated to eliminate tooth pain which is due to the infection or pus formation in the root apex.

Tooth decay (deep cavity), trauma or cracks can cause the nerves of teeth to die. When this occurs, your tooth can often still be saved with Root Canal Treatment. Severe pain, swelling, sensitivity to hot or cold, or a discoloured tooth, are signs that a root canal problem exists.

What are the alternatives to a root canal treatment?

• Remove the tooth – Removing the tooth will leave a gap that may need to be replaced by an artificial tooth.
• Leave the tooth untreated – If left untreated an infection may occur and can spread to the jaw. Pus can build up and cause pain. Cysts may also develop and need further treatment.

Please note: In most cases root canal treatment is very successful. Crown is highly recommended after RCT for preserving the tooth for longer time. Speak with your dentist if you have any concerns about the treatment.
